Massachusetts physicians renew their full medical license every two years on their birthday. This guide covers the renewal cycle, fees, CME requirements, mandatory disclosures, and how to complete the renewal online.
Full Massachusetts medical licenses are valid for two years and expire on the physician's birthday. Renewal becomes available approximately 90 days before the expiration date. Late renewal is permitted with additional fees, but practicing on an expired license is a Board violation.
The standard biennial renewal fee is $600. Late renewal carries an additional fee. Fees are paid online via the Board's mass.gov renewal portal.

The Board randomly audits a percentage of renewals each cycle. If you are audited, you must produce certificates documenting all 50 CME credits, including mandatory topics. Failure to document is treated as a CME deficiency and may result in a consent agreement, fines, or further action.
